Despite being in a division with the Atlanta Braves and potentially needing to push through the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Philadelphia Phillies remained towards the top of everyone's list to make a World Series run in 2024. It's been a relatively slow start to the season, but things are just heating up.

The Phillies sit just two games back of the Braves in the NL East division and have a firm grip on a wild-card spot. But it is way too early to talk about that. We're roughly ten percent through a season with plenty of baseball left to play.

But it is never too early to talk about how the Phillies might plan to improve their roster to make another run toward a World Series. A perfect time to announce your intentions is at the trade deadline by making a move to make a statement. This year, the Phillies should absolutely be buyers. One insider believes he knows the direction they plan to take, too.

Prospect Starlyn Caba Projected As Trade Candidate For Phillies

David Schoenfield of ESPN projected who on each of MLB's 30 teams may most likely be on the move at the trade deadline (subscription required). For the Phillies, he selected the club's number-five prospect, shortstop Starlyn Caba. He says the Phillies and their ownership are no strangers to trading prospects to get better. Plus, with the team possibly ready to slide Brandon Marsh over to center field, extra pop from a left fielder would help them tremendously down the stretch.

Caba batted .301 in rookie ball in 2023, with an OBP of .486 and 16 stolen bases. Because Trea Turner looks to be the Phillies' shortstop of the next decade, there's a bit of a log jam for Caba to make his way into the Phillies' red pinstripes.

Should the time come, he is the perfect prospect candidate for the Phillies to consider moving in return for an extra bat to help out in left field.
