Phillies Smash MLB Playoff Record in NLCS Game 2
By Tyler Maher
If you've been following this Phillies postseason run, it feels like they set a new record every night.
Well, it didn't take long for them to slug their way into record books on Tuesday. Philadelphia got off to a hot start in Game 2 of the NLCS, as Trea Turner took Merrill Kelly deep for a solo shot in the bottom of the first to give the Phillies a quick 1-0 lead. Kyle Schwarber then made it a 2-0 ballgame with his own solo blast in the bottom of the third.
That marked Philadelphia's 14th homer in its last four games dating back to Game 3 of the NLDS, setting a new MLB playoff record in the process.
Phillies Playoff Record
The Phillies didn't stop there, either. Schwarber took Kelly deep again in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 3-0 and extending Philly's record to 15 playoff homers in a four-game span.
The Phillies' streak began during Game 3 of the NLDS when they tied a playoff record with 6 long balls against the Atlanta Braves. They followed that up with 3 more homers in Game 4, knocking the Braves out of the playoffs with their impressive power barrage.
Philadelphia was just getting warmed up, however, and a few days off before the start of the NLCS didn't cool off its bats. The Phillies picked up where they left off with a trio of homers in Game 1 (including a special birthday blast by Bryce Harper), starting the series off on the right foot.
Philly now has 19 homers through its first 8 games of the postseason, which isn't a record, but it's close!
The Phillies are trying to power their way back to the World Series, and so far, it's working.
