Connor Brogdon's Phillies career has come to an end on Saturday. After being designated for assignment earlier in the week, the right-handed pitcher was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for southpaw Benony Robles.

The former tenth-round pick, Brogdon has shuffled back and forth from the minors throughout his five-season career with the Phillies. He had already appeared in three games for Philadelphia this season, allowing six runs over two innings, and posting a 27.00 ERA. In his last appearance for the club, he surrendered a 10th-inning grand slam to Spencer Steer against the Cincinnati Reds.

Now, he will try to revive his career in Los Angeles, fortunately with another World Series contender.

While the Dodgers will hope for Brogdon to get back on track, Philadelphia will try to develop 23-year-old lefty Benony Robles. Last season, Robles posted a 38.7% strikeout rate in 32 2/3 innings for High-A Great Lakes, going 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA. In five minor league campaigns, he is a combined 13-16 with a 4.67 ERA.

Robles had been with the Dodgers organization since 2017 when he was with the Dominican Summer League squad.

For his career, Brogdon has a 3.88 ERA with a 10-8 record, having pitched 144 innings. Despite his slow start to this season, the 29-year-old's career numbers with the Phillies are actually solid. He was an integral part of the bullpen during the 2022 postseason run. However, he hasn't been able to meet the expectations the organization and the fans had of him early in his career.

Last season, Brogdon showed signs of decline when he had a down campaign, allowing five homers in 29 innings. When he followed that with this season's abysmal performance, the writing was on the wall for him.

The Phillies are trying to get back on track and make a run to win the National League. They are currently behind the Dodgers and the Braves in odds of making the World Series. (+700) Head over to FanDuel Sportsbook now if you want to take advantage of these odds.
