Perfect Sean Desai Replacement Just Became Available to Eagles

If the Eagles decide to part ways with Sean Desai after this season, Wink Martindale could be the fix that they need.

The Philadelphia Eagles' defense has looked like a shell of itself over the last few weeks after relieving defensive coordinator Sean Desai of his play-calling duties and turning it over to senior defensive assistant Matt Patricia.

The Eagles’ defense cannot generate a lot of pressure (43 sacks) with their defensive line and give up their fair share of points (25.2 allowed) and yards per game (356.1). Simply put, it hasn’t been a great season for Philadelphia, who will probably move on from Desai and Patricia when the season ends.

If that’s the route the Eagles decide to go with, they must find a defensive coordinator who can reignite their pass rush and get everybody playing on the same accord. The good news for Philadelphia is that type of defensive coordinator became available a day after the 2023 regular season ended.

Eagles Rumors: Wink Martindale Resigns As Giants Defensive Coordinator

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported on Monday that Wink Martindale resigned as the Giants' defensive coordinator to "pursue head coach and defensive coordinator opportunities elsewhere."

The Eagles have seen Martindale’s defenses up close and personal over the past two seasons. In Sunday’s 17-point win over Philadelphia, Martindale did not let up against the Eagles’ offense as he peppered them with blitzes from different angles and applied pressure.

Martindale helped New York’s defense to be tied for first in takeaways (31) this season with the Ravens – an area the Eagles’ defense has struggled with (18). The Giants don’t have the same defensive talent that the Eagles possess. However, Martindale has his guys ready and puts them in a position to succeed.

At the same time, the Giants’ defense wasn’t great against the pass (229.3 yards per game, 19th in the NFL) or the run (132.4 yards per game allowed, 29th in the league) this season. The Eagles’ defense struggled against the run down the stretch, but they could use some help to defend the pass.

The Eagles' defense has underachieved big time this season, and maybe Martindale is the perfect guy to get them back on track with his aggressive play style.

However, that’s an issue the Eagles must solve whenever the offseason begins. As of right now, Philadelphia will prepare to play the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football in the final game of Super Wild Card weekend.
