Calling the end to the 2023-24 season for the Philadelphia Eagles a "disaster" would be a criminal understatement. This team started 10-1, was only able to obtain a wildcard berth in the playoffs, and then got absolutely dominated and embarrassed by a 9-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers team.

Blame can go all around for this. But the defense, in particular, was a huge part of the failures this team had down the stretch. There was a lack of health, a lack of leadership, and a lack of play-making that led to this team getting routed more times than not.

Head coach Nick Sirianni is being retained, but the defensive coaching staff has been cleaned out. Now, the Eagles need a new leader and new support to right the ship. Luckily for them, the perfect man for the job just became available.

Eagles Rumors: Vic Fangio Perfect Defensive Coordinator After Dolphins Departure

ESPN's Adam Schefter, along with Jeremy Fowler, report that defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has mutually agreed to part ways with the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are another team that lost the division lead late and lost their first playoff game.

Fangio was a candidate to take over the Eagles' defense last season, but he ultimately decided to stay with what he built in Miami. Now, there are no strings attached and presumably nothing stopping him from making his way to Philadelphia.

Fangio has 20 years of experience as a defensive coordinator at the NFL level, plus another four years as a head coach. He has fielded a top-10 scoring defense in half of those seasons, with an absurd six top-three finishes.

For a team that lacked leadership and direction like the Eagles did this past season, Fangio would be the perfect candidate to come in and get things back in order in hopes of continuing to compete in the NFC.
