Former Philadelphia Eagles running back Boston Scott will surprisingly be looking for a new opportunity before Week 1 of the 2024 NFL regular season.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, the former Eagles running back was released by the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Scott signed a one-year, $1.2 million deal with the Rams in the offseason after spending the last six years with the Eagles.

The 29-year-old Scott was competing with Zach Evans for the RB3 job in Los Angeles. Scott had 34 rushing yards on 11 carries in the Rams’ preseason finale against the Houston Texans.

Scott received a lot of work in the preseason, recording 157 rushing yards on 36 carries (4.4 yards per carry). However, it wasn’t enough as the 5-foot-6 running back couldn’t win a job in the Rams’ backfield.

Nonetheless, Scott getting released by the Rams a couple of days before the roster deadline allows him to join another team that might be looking for an RB3 or potential return specialist.

In his six-year run with the Eagles, the veteran running back was used on kick returns and averaged 22.8 yards per kickoff return. Last season with the Eagles, Scott 138 yards from scrimmage on 24 touchdowns.

That said, Philadelphia fans shouldn’t expect Scott to return to the Eagles as the team’s backfield is locked in with Kenneth Gainwell and rookie Will Shipley. Shipley and Gainwell have similar play styles to Scott and both received a ton of preseason work with Saquon Barkley not playing.
