Kenneth Gainwell Exposes Dysfunction That Cost Eagles in 2023
Everyone who followed the Philadelphia Eagles last season knows something was off at a core level. Players were unhappy, and the coaching staff clearly didn't do a good job at rallying their squad after things started to slip.
In new comments from running back Kenneth Gainwell, however, he breaks down how bad things were throughout the entire organization.
Gainwell highlighted a lack of "connection" between the "upstairs and downstairs" ultimately fueled the team's implosion to end the year. With the "front office and locker room" lacking communication, it caused friction that led to Philly's downfall.
The fact Gainwell also points out the Kansas City Chiefs -- the team that beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl and then defended their title -- as a contrast to Philadelphia in 2023, which shows the different directions these contenders went last season.
These are some strong comments from Gainwell. He's clearly putting some blame on GM Howie Roseman and the rest of the front office for how things played out.
Perhaps the changes the Eagles made this offseason will start to mend these fences. Coordinators Brian Johnson and Sean Desai both failed to get the most out of their players, which caused plenty of frustration. Their exits, coupled with adding experienced coaches to replace them in Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio, is one way the front office looked out for its roster.
Roseman and co. also spared no expense when it came to improving the people in the locker room. The signings of Saquon Barkley and Bryce Huff added playmakers on both sides of the ball, while reuniting with C.J. Gardner-Johnson has been singled out as a move to help the team get the edge back that it was lacking in 2023.
Hopefully this offseason activity in a number of areas paves the way for the Eagles' resurgence this year.
