Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter's Postgame Reaction Has Eagles Fans Furious After Week 2 Loss
There were a lot of things to be upset with for Philadelphia Eagles fans on Monday night. But for as much as one loss stings, it's hard to get too upset about a player struggling once. That happens to even the best players in the league. But when we're two weeks into a new season and one unit is already falling apart? That opens some genuine room for concern.
One of the things worrying Eagles fans most is the run defense — and that starts with defensive tackles Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. Considering how poorly the two played, Eagles fans are not happy about the way they reacted after Monday's embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Carter and Davis were caught cracking jokes and smiling on the field after the loss, and you don't have to read too many of the replies to the video to see how fans are feeling about it. Some of the highlights include "Jalen Carter shouldn't even be in the league," "They don't know what just happened. Still dazed," "not a good look," and even "More dudes that couldn’t give a f--- ..."
And when you consider the Eagles have given up over 300 rushing yards in just two games, it's not hard to see why the defensive tackles are at the forefront of the criticism. Even worse? Philly is allowing an absurd 6.4 yards per carry so far — easily the worst mark in the NFL.
But let's also take a second to have some perspective here. A seven-second clip of someone making a joke is not a big deal. I mean, even in this already short clip, the first couple seconds show both of them looking frustrated and shaking their heads.
I get that fans are looking for every reason to pile on two of the team's most disappointing players, and there are lots of things they're doing on the field that deserve every bit of that ire. But let's maybe pump the brakes a bit on "four seconds of smiling is completely unacceptable."
There are bigger problems for Eagles fans to worry about anyway.
A two-game road trip kicks off for Philly in Week 3, and that begins with a game against the red-hot New Orleans Saints. It was great to watch the Saints embarrass the Dallas Cowboys, but now the Eagles have opened as underdogs in that one — at +108 on the moneyline on FanDuel Sportsbook. After that it's a matchup with the 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the Eagles take their bye week.
If Philly loses both of those games, we can expect that Week 6 bye to bring some major changes — and that could start with Carter and Davis finding their roles shrink significantly.
