Jason Kelce Gives Update on Retirement Decision Timeline
The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot to answer during the offseason. One major question that still looms surrounds center Jason Kelce. Will he retire or will he return for his 14th season?
There has been a lot of speculation on whether Kelce has played his final snap in the NFL. Many different outlets reported that Kelce told his teammates he would be hanging it up after the Wild Card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Despite the rumors, the 36-year-old hasn't made any official announcement. Over the past few weeks, Kelce has been supporting his brother Travis by going to all of the Chiefs' postseason matchups.
Now the seven-time Pro Bowl selection will take some time to decide on his future. Per John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Kelce told Shaquille O'Neal "he will take a few weeks and decide whether he will retire or not."
Clark added that Kelce was overwhelmed with emotions following the loss to the Buccaneers but didn't want to make a hasty decision.
The Cincinnati product has been an anchor along the interior of the offensive line for over a decade for Philadelphia. A top-notch center is valuable for any offense due to their ability to communicate with the quarterback and the entire offensive line.
In 2023, Kelce didn't seem to take a step back. He finished the year with a PFF grade of 80.6 only giving up one sack.
Over the next couple of weeks, Philly fans will find out if Kelce wants to return for another crack at a championship or hang up the cleats on a Hall-of-Fame career.
