Eagles vs Commanders Week 8 Opening Odds Are Way Too Conservative

The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders are coming off two incredibly different games in Week 7.

In the afternoon, the Commanders lost to the pathetically bad New York Giants on the road, 14-7. That was only the Giants' second win of the season and first since barely beating the lowly Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.

Later on Sunday, the Eagles easily won their Sunday Night Football showdown against the AFC East-leading Miami Dolphins, who were 5-1 coming into their primetime matchup. Philadelphia barely broke a sweat, winning by 2 touchdowns.

Based on that, you'd think Philadelphia would be getting a bit more respect against Washington this week.

Eagles vs Commanders Week 8 Opening Odds

As of Monday morning, the Eagles are listed as 6.5-point road favorites against the Commanders in Week 8, which seems too optimistic for Washington.

Granted, the Commanders played well against Philadelphia back in Week 4, forcing overtime before ultimately falling, 34-31.

Overall, however, the Eagles are a much better team. They own the top record in the NFC at 6-1 and are one of the league's best teams on both sides of the ball, ranking third in total yards on offense while giving up the seventh-fewest yards on defense. They're also coming off their most impressive win of the season against their most difficult opponent so far.

Washington should be a cakewalk by comparison. The Commanders are now 3-4 and have lost four of their last five games. Their only wins have come against the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons, none of whom are in the same class as Philadelphia. Washington's offense and defense are both among the worst in the league, ranking 20th or worse in scoring and yardage on both sides of the ball.

The Commanders got lucky against us in Week 4 when we were still figuring things out and getting used to new offensive coordinator Brian Johnson. They won't be so fortunate this time around, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the Eagles win this game by double digits.
