With Monday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs rapidly approaching, the Philadelphia Eagles have begun making decisions on who will play and who will sit. Dallas Goedert has already been ruled out, of course, but the team made a surprising announcement on Sunday regarding another player who will not participate.

The Eagles revealed on Sunday that defensive end Derek Barnett has been downgraded to "Out" for Monday's contest due to personal reasons.

Barnett was not listed on Saturday's injury report, so this comes as a surprising decision for Philadelphia.

While "personal reasons" is obviously vague, some Eagles fans are speculating that Barnett isn't playing due to performance reasons. His role has been greatly reduced this year after he missed nearly all of 2022 with a torn ACL. While he's suited up for eight of the team's nine games so far, he's only played in 20% of defensive snaps after appearing in 68% of defensive snaps in 2021.

Unfortunately for Barnett, the injury appears to have sapped much of his effectiveness, reducing the explosiveness that made the former Super Bowl champ a menace in opposing backfields.

Barnett didn't play for Philadelphia in its final game before its bye week, either, so he has now missed consecutive games and hasn't played since late October. With the Eagles now in the second half of the season and cruising toward the playoffs, it's fair to wonder if the team will do something more drastic with Barnett like cut him or bench him.
