As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for their first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, GM Howie Roseman is continuing to put the final touches on the training camp roster. With only a month left before the start of the regular season, the Eagles are bringing in more players to evaluate whether they can make the final 53-man roster. The latest transaction involved signing a pass-catcher from a division rival.

On Wednesday, the team announced the release of wide receiver Shaq Davis. The 24-year-old was signed to a reserve/future contract in January but he was always a long shot to make the roster. After waiving him, the Eagles used the roster spot to sign tight end Armani Rogers, who was just released by the Washington Commanders on Tuesday.

Eagles News: Philadelphia Claims TE Armani Rogers Off Waivers

Rogers spent the last two seasons in Washington after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. He had played quarterback at college for UNLV and Ohio and was primarily used in offensive package plays. He most notably broke the NCAA record for a quarterback with a 99-yard rushing touchdown in 2021.

In the NFL, Rogers switched to tight end, playing in 11 games and 158 snaps as a rookie with the Commanders, catching five passes for 64 yards. He tore his Achilles tendon during practice in the offseason and missed the 2023 season.

Rogers will now have a chance to re-establish his career in Philadelphia. The Eagles already have an established tight-end rotation with Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra, as well as new signing C.J. Uzomah. It will be hard for Rogers to crack the rotation but he should be kept around in the practice squad at the bare minimum.
