Eagles' NFC East Odds Still Paint Promising Picture Thanks to Cowboys' Terrible Free Agency

You won't find many Philadelphia Eagles fans who came into this offseason with a ton of optimism. After last season's late-year collapse, it felt like Philly was doomed to be fighting for a Wild Card spot next season in a division that clearly belonged to that rival.

But all the naysayers forgot just how quickly Jerry Jones can ruin a nice thing in Dallas. His horrible offseason, highlighted by complete inactivity in free agency and a refusal to negotiate an extension with his franchise quarterback, suddenly means the NFC East is up for grabs again.

This isn't just Philly homer talk either. The betting markets agree.

At +135, the Eagles only barely trail the Cowboys (+120) in the odds to win the division. Converting those odds to implied probability, means the markets are implying Philly at 42.6% while Dallas is 45.5%. That might as well be a coin flip, while the +900 Giants and Commanders get 10% each.

You'll notice that adds up over 100% (the sportsbook gets their cut of the action), but what's really important to note is how the odds compare to each other. Philly and Dallas' chances are about the same, and the Giants and Commanders aren't even in the neighborhood.

The Eagles' activity in free agency has paid off. With Saquon Barkley adding a new layer of threat to this offense, Jalen Hurts ranks right next to Dak Prescott in the MVP odds.

Losing Jason Kelce hurts, of course, but even with the draft still to come the Eagles have done a great job retooling this roster and setting the team up for another potential run in 2024. Of course, we also thought that last year's roster was capable of making a run too.

One thing is certain: finishing ahead of the Cowboys in the NFC East would go a long way to making up for the pain that Eagles fans were forced to endure last season.
