Here's Who Eagles Will Face With Win Over Buccaneers on Monday
By Cem Yolbulan
The Philadelphia Eagles are yet to take the field in the postseason, but their opponent for the NFC Divisional Round next week is set after the weekend's action.
Coming into this past weekend, the Eagles had four potential matchups for the next round; the 49ers, Cowboys, Rams, and the Lions. After a wild NFC playoff weekend that saw the Green Bay Packers demolish the Cowboys, and the Detroit Lions pulling off their first playoff win since 1992, the Eagles' path to a potential Super Bowl is set.
Eagles Next Opponent
If Philadelphia beats the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tonight, they will face the Lions at Ford Field next weekend. That game is scheduled to be at 3 pm EST on Sunday.
This matchup would have plenty of intrigue, as the Eagles' recently promoted defensive coordinator Matt Patricia was the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2018 to 2020, leading them to a 13-29-1 record in three seasons.
This is a completely different Detroit team under head coach Dan Campbell, who led the Lions to a franchise record for regular season wins and first division title in 30 years. After going three decades without a playoff game in Detroit, the Lions fans will only have to wait one week before hosting another one.
And of course, if the Eagles were to win that game, their next matchup would be an NFC Championship matchup against whoever wins the 49ers-Packers game. And a win there would make their next opponent whoever won the AFC in a Super Bowl showdown.
However, before the Eagles can start thinking about the Lions, they need to take care of the Bucs first.
Despite the injuries piling up, calls for Nick Sirianni's job, and the inexplicable slump over the last two months, the Eagles are still 2.5-point favorites against Tampa Bay.
