The Eagles' secondary has become a liability for the defense but it sounds like reinforcements are on the way, as the organization opened Avonte Maddox's 21-day window to return from the Injured Reserve list.

Maddox hasn't played since Week 2 after suffering a pectoral injury, so it makes sense that Philly's defense has struggled.

That being said, Maddox's return couldn't come at a better time.

Eagles Injury News: Avonte Maddox Close to Return

This is Maddox's sixth season with the Eagles after being selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He's a big-play threat in the secondary, compiling eight forced fumbles and four interceptions in his career.

Maddox allowed just a 77.3 passer rating when targeted in 2022, a mark that would be a massive improvement from what the Eagles are trotting out.

During this three-game losing streak, Philadelphia is surrendering 7.7 yards per pass attempt, a mark that would rank last in the NFL over the course of the season. Improvements need to be made quickly, so fingers crossed Maddox returns as soon as possible.

With a winnable matchup against the Giants this week, it makes sense to hold Maddox out until Week 17 against the Cardinals or Week 18 vs. the same Giants. Provided he's back for the playoffs, the Eagles should feel better about their secondary moving forward.

That potential improvement should make a big difference in the Eagles' Super Bowl chances.
