Philadelphia Eagles fans' spirits were dimmed after the win over the Washington Commanders due to the concern around stud rookie Jalen Carter. The imposing defensive tackle was forced to exit the game early with a back injury, and he eventually headed to the locker room, which only heightened fears.

Following the victory, the first update on Carter has emerged.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports Carter is set to have an MRI on his back Monday morning. This will allow the Eagles to get the full picture on the injury and see if there's anything more serious below the surface.

It's not the most encouraging to see a player needing an MRI considering the can of worms it can open up. However, McLane and other beat reporters noted Carter seemed fine after his early departure on Sunday, which could signal this is merely a precautionary step.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first injury concern that's popped up for Carter in his first NFL season. He was sidelined in Week 6 after hurting his ankle in practice, and Philadelphia certainly felt his absence in the ensuing 20-14 loss to the New York Jets.

Hopefully Carter's injury does turn out to be minor and he's able to be a full go for an important matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9. The rookie's already made a big impact over his first seven games, recording 3.5 sacks and five tackles for loss.

With two forced fumbles and six QB hits to boot, it's clear Carter is the kind of superstar-caliber prospect everyone thought he was heading into the draft.

Carter's status is one to monitor closely throughout this week. Assuming his MRI comes back clean on Monday and he's able to practice in some capacity early on, he'll be right on track to face the Cowboys.
