Eagles Get Final Week 4 Injury News on A.J. Brown & DeVonta Smith
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing to trek down to the Sunshine State to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. This will be the Eagles’ second straight road game after defeating the New Orleans Saints by three points in Week 3.
Philadelphia received incredible performances from tight end Dallas Goedert and running back Saquon Barkley as they were without star wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Brown missed his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury, while Smith left in the second half against the Saints with a concussion.
With the Eagles’ offense also losing Britain Covey to a shoulder injury, Philly will hope the other receivers on the 53-man roster can step up. That said, the team issued their final Week 4 injury report on Friday, and there's a chance we could see Brown on the field against the Bucs.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles have listed Smith as out, but Brown was listed as questionable.
Smith didn’t practice this entire week, which isn’t surprising due to his head injury. As for Brown, he was listed as a DNP on Wednesday and Thursday. However, he was a limited participant at Friday’s practice, which is a good step forward in his recovery.
Based on the injuries to Covey and Smith, the Eagles could use Brown on the field, only if he’s close to 100 percent. In the Eagles’ Week 1 win over Green Bay, Brown posted five receptions (10 targets) for 119 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles missed Brown’s presence in Weeks 2 and 3, so potentially having him back on Sunday would be a huge boost to quarterback Jalen Hurts.
At the same time, Philadelphia could decide to hold Brown out Sunday as they have a bye in Week 5, giving him more time to heal. The Eagles are slight 1.5-point road favorites against Tampa Bay on DraftKings Sportsbook despite the injuries to the wide receiver core.
