6 Eagles Free Agents Most Likely to Walk This Offseason
By Randy Gurzi
5. Rashaad Penny, RB
Miles Sanders was a second-round pick from Penn State who played well for the first three seasons of his career with the Eagles. Then in year four, he had his best campaign as a pro.
Sanders rushed for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns, setting himself up nicely for free agency. The Eagles didn’t try and retain him though since he outperformed the price tag they set for the position. The Carolina Panthers were willing to open the checkbook and paid him $24.5 million over four seasons. Sanders then gave them all of 432 rushing yards in 2023.
Philly wound up landing D’Andre Swift, who led the team in rushing, but before trading for him they were going for a low-risk/high-reward move by signing Rashaad Penny. A former first-round pick, Penny flashed his talent while with the Seattle Seahawks but never could stay healthy. He still had an impressive average of 5.7 yards per attempt which is why Philly rolled the dice.
Adding Swift ended up leading to Penny being a healthy scratch for most of the season and he finished the year with just 33 yards on 11 carries. Even with Swift hitting free agency, it seems highly unlikely Penny will come back for another year with the Eagles.
