Eagles Cut Free Agent Who Re-Signed to Clear Room for Rookie
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles like the other 31 NFL teams are still in the process of adding players to their 90-man roster ahead of training camp and the preseason.
The Eagles recently held their rookie minicamp earlier this month and found a potential diamond in the rough in Ferris State cornerback Shon Stephens. Stephens went undrafted and accepted invitations to the Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookie minicamps.
However, the former D2 star cornerback never made it across the Keystone state as the Eagles signed him to the 90-man roster. Philadelphia released tight end Noah Togiai to make room for Stephens, per Zach Berman of PHLY.
Togiai signed a reserve/futures contract with the Eagles in January after signing to the practice squad last November. It was the 26-year-old tight end’s third stint with the Eagles, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
Togiai was waived by the Eagles in Sept. 2020 and was picked up by the Indianapolis Colts the next month. The 6-foot-4 tight end played four games with the Colts before being placed on IR that season.
Indianapolis waived Togiai in Sept. 2021 and re-signed again by the Eagles the next month. The other time the former Oregon State tight end was with the Eagles was in 2022.
Nonetheless, it’s unlikely that the Eagles will bring back Togiai this summer as they have six tight ends on their 90-man roster.
Earlier this offseason, the Eagles signed CJ Uzomah, who will compete with Grant Calcaterra and Albert Okwuegbunam Jr. to see who wins the TE2 job behind starter Dallas Goedert.
