The Philadelphia Eagles made plenty of noise leading up to last month's trade deadline. The buzz even resulted in a few deals, though there were some dream players that didn't end up in Philly.

However, it turns out Howie Roseman checked in on at least one popular target ahead of Halloween.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports the Eagles were one of the NFC contenders to check in Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II at the deadline. This follows on the heels of the news the San Francisco 49ers also called Denver about the star CB, and Florio adds both teams "were concerned that the other would end up with Surtain."

It's not a shock at all to hear Philadelphia had interest in Surtain. This secondary has been put through the wringer when it comes to injuries, which presents a possible fatal flaw if another key contributor goes down.

Surtain would be more than just a depth move, however. He's a special type of young player who could immediately give this team a boost -- 7 interceptions, 32 pass breakups, 1 pick-six since 2021 -- while also figuring into the Eagles' long-term plans at the position.

That kind of talent isn't easy to acquire, though, considering the steep asking prices often required. Even if the Broncos do undergo a rebuild, Surtain's skill set makes him a foundational piece they'd be happy to hold onto.

It's intriguing that both Philly and San Fran were worried about the other's interest in Surtain. They obviously see themselves as the frontrunners in the NFC, otherwise they wouldn't be so concerned about what the other was planning to do at the deadline.

The 49ers (Chase Young) and Eagles (Kevin Byard) both made significant additions by Halloween, but time will tell which makes a bigger impact on the rest of the season.
