Desperate Giants Quickly Add Eagle Who Was Just Released
By Cem Yolbulan
Eagles fans are still reeling from their disappointing Week 2 collapse against the Atlanta Falcons. They have every right to be frustrated with their team's performance late in the game.
At the same time, all they need to do is to look around in the NFC East and that should immediately help them feel better about the Philadelphia Eagles.
The division laughingstocks are once again looking like the New York Giants. In Week 2, they lost a game to the Commanders because of the fact that they didn't have a kicker for the entire game. Once Graham Gano went down with an injury, they had no one else on the team who could kick a football, resulting in them not being able to get the easy three points on multiple drives.
On Tuesday, they placed Gano on the Injured Reserve list. Using that roster spot, they claimed former Eagles special teams ace Patrick Johnson. After being released by Philadelphia two days ago, Johnson is staying in the division and is headed to New York.
NFL News: Giants Sign Former Eagles LB Patrick Johnson
Patrick Johnson was one of the surprising inclusions to the Eagles' 53-man roster. He had only played 38 defensive snaps in 2023 and was used exclusively on special teams. In his first two seasons as an Eagle, Johnson had a more significant role on defense but lost his playing time as GM Howie Roseman added more talent on that end of the football.
Some had wondered whether the Eagles would be able to bring Johnson back to the practice squad. However, as a versatile veteran with a lot of experience, he was claimed off waivers and will now face the Eagles twice during the season, with the first matchup coming up in Week 7.
