D'Andre Swift Gives Concerning Answer on Eagles Future
By Jovan Alford
D’Andre Swift returned to Philadelphia this past offseason after shockingly being traded by the Lions during NFL draft weekend.
For Swift, who grew up in the City of Brotherly Love, it was a tremendous opportunity to play for his hometown team and be their lead running back after Miles Sanders signed a four-year deal in free agency with the Carolina Panthers.
Swift balled out this season with the Eagles and stayed healthy, which played a major part in his success. The 25-year-old running back is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and it’s not for sure that he will be back next season.
Eagles News: D’Andre Swift Leaves Door Open To Return To Philadelphia
The Philadelphia native was asked by reporters on Wednesday afternoon if he’ll be back next season. Swift responded with, “Time will tell. We’ll see.” When further questioned by the media in attendance, he said, “If the opportunity presents itself, we’ll see when it gets there.”
One has to believe Swift would love to stay with his hometown team for the foreseeable future. However, there’s a chance he could get a more lucrative contract on the open market.
This season, the former St. Joe’s Prep standout ran for 1,049 yards (career high) and five touchdowns on 229 carries. Swift also had 39 receptions (49 targets) for 214 yards and a touchdown.
While those numbers are impressive, fans would say that Swift could’ve been used more during the season and in Monday night’s playoff game. In Monday night’s loss to the Buccaneers, the young running back had 34 yards on 10 carries and four receptions for 32 yards.
The Eagles don’t usually spend a lot of money on the running back position, as we saw them let Sanders hit free agency. However, Swift is the perfect running back to play with Jalen Hurts as he has good burst and vision and can be utilized out of the backfield as a pass catcher.
Spotrac projects Swift’s market value as a four-year, $22.6 million deal with an average annual salary of $5.6 million. Heading into the offseason, the only running back Philadelphia has under contract for next season is Kenny Gainwell.
