One of the most exciting times on the NFL calendar is upon us: free agency. As teams try to bolster their rosters ahead of the new season, fanbases get excited about new additions and potential signings. With a significant roster turnaround in Philadelphia after a disappointing season, the Eagles will welcome plenty of new faces in the offseason. They reportedly have their eyes set on a star defender from an NFC East rival.

In addition to a reported interest in running back Saquon Barkley, the Eagles are preparing to make a run at New York Giants star safety Xavier McKinney.

Eagles Reportedly Interested in Giants Safety Xavier McKinney

The Giants made the surprising decision to not franchise or transition tag McKinney earlier last week, allowing the 24-year-old to hit free agency. This opened the door for teams like the Eagles, who need help in the defensive backfield, to try to poach the Alabama product.

McKinney will be one of the most sought-after safeties on the market. He was the only defensive back in the NFL to play 100% of his team's snaps last season. He has the fourth-highest overall grade and the highest coverage grade among safeties on PFF.

Considering the fact that the draft is not very strong at the safety position, McKinney is likely to get a huge contract this offseason. The Eagles, who struggled immensely in coverage last season, would be wise to be the team to give him that big deal.
