Adam Schefter Predicts Major Eagles Coaching Changes
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles' fall from grace this season has been fun to watch if you are a fan, as the team went from Super Bowl contenders and potential No. 1 seed in the playoffs to the No. 5 seed in the NFC.
The Eagles have gone 1-4 in their last five games, which has caused the fanbase to start talking about head coach Nick Sirianni’s future with the organization.
It may be a little premature to talk about Sirianni leaving, but ESPN's Adam Schefter did reveal that he expects a shakeup of the Philly coaching staff.
Eagles News: Adam Schefter Reports on Coaching Rumors
“I don’t think they are firing Sirianni,” Schefter said on 97.5 The Fanatic on Wednesday morning. “I do think there will be changes – his assistants. We’ve already begun to see them. There will be more. They aren’t going to stand pat, that’s not the way they do things.”
It’s not surprising to hear Schefter say this about Sirianni as he’s made the playoffs three straight seasons, which includes an NFC Championship and Super Bowl appearance last season.
Nonetheless, the potential changes to his coaching staff could be warranted, especially on the defensive side of the ball, which has looked like a shell of itself this season. The Eagles hired Sean Desai as the new defensive coordinator this past season, with Jonathan Gannon being named the head coach in Arizona.
However, that hiring hasn’t panned out, which led to Philadelphia turning over the defensive coordinator duties to senior defensive assistant Matt Patricia. With Patricia calling the plays, nothing has changed on defense, as they got crushed for 449 total yards by the Cardinals in Week 17.
As for the Eagles’ offense, they’ve had their inconsistencies under first-year coordinator Brian Johnson. But they are still ranked ninth in rushing yards (128.6), 16th in passing yards per game (229.3), and seventh in scoring offense (26.4).
It’ll be interesting to see what moves the Eagles make in the offseason to address the coaching staff. But before we look ahead to the offseason, Philadelphia still has one more game against the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon.
