76ers Must Sign 5-Time All-Star Eyeing NBA Return

No James Harden? No problem. The Philadelphia 76ers have proven that they're perfectly fine without the disgruntled superstar, kicking off the 2023-24 NBA season with an 8-1 record — good for the Eastern Conference's best record.

But just because the 76ers are rolling doesn't mean that the roster can't be further improved. Injuries can pile up at a moment's notice, meaning it'd be wise for general manager Daryl Morey to explore any potential moves to add reinforcements as the campaign continues.

Fortunately for Philly, there's one free agent out there who would easily improve the team's depth if signed.

76ers Roster Rumors

BasketNews reports that five-time All-Star point guard John Wall has his eyes on a potential return. In an interview with the Australian media, the 33-year-old told the publication that he's "trying to get back to the NBA" and is working toward that goal by training with the NBL's South East Melbourne Phoenix — a team that he partially owns.

With the 76ers averaging the fewest bench points in the NBA, bringing in Wall to play behind Tyrese Maxey is a no-brainer. The former 2010 first-overall selection might not be in his prime anymore, but he still has some juice left in the tank.

After all, Wall averaged 11.4 points and 5.2 assists on 22.2 minutes per game across 34 outings with the Los Angeles Clippers last season. Although his shooting splits (.408/.303/.681) were far from his best, the 25.0 points he averaged per 100 possessions was only slightly below his career average (26.9).

On top of that, bringing in Wall would give Philadelphia a second reliable facilitator. Even though his scoring might have fallen off, he's still a playmaker that most teams would love to have, having averaged at least 7.7 assists per 36 minutes in each of his 11 NBA seasons.

Nevertheless, it doesn't seem like Wall will make a decision any time soon. He'll continue training in the coming weeks and if that doesn't work out, he'll consider suiting up for the Phoenix, who already have a jersey prepared for him with his "college number with the name on the back."
