76ers Get Big Update After Scary Kelly Oubre Jr. injury
By Tyler Maher
It's been a crazy weekend for the Philadelphia 76ers, and for Kelly Oubre Jr. specifically.
On Saturday evening, the team learned that Oubre Jr. was involved in a scary car accident. He was struck by a car while crossing the street in Center City, Philadelphia and was sent to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. Thankfully, it was quickly reported that his injuries were not life-threatening and that he was in stable condition.
On Sunday, concerned 76ers fans received a big update on the guard's injury status.
Kelly Oubre Accident
The team put out a statement on Sunday saying that Oubre suffered a fractured rib along with multiple cuts and bruises during the incident. He will not play in Philadelphia's game against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday and is expected to be re-evaluated in a week after he's had some time to heal and recover.
This is overall good news for the 76ers given that Oubre's injuries could have been much worse. Fortunately, it sounds like he'll be able to return to the court fairly soon depending on how his recovery goes.
Oubre, who signed with Philadelphia before the season, was off to a good start with the Sixers before going down. Through his first 8 games, he was averaging 16.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from the field.
Hopefully the 27-year-old former first-round pick can pick up where he left off when he returns. In the meantime, the 76ers will try to persevere without one of their better players.
