76ers Receive Fantastic Tyrese Maxey Injury Update on Monday
After missing the last four games in concussion protocol, Philadelphia 76ers point guard Tyrese Maxey is officially back.
On Monday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Maxey has officially cleared concussion protocol and will be in the lineup when the 76ers face the New York Knicks on Tuesday. The former Kentucky Wildcat last suited up on March 3 before Philadelphia went 1-3 in his absence.
76ers News: Tyrese Maxey Clears Concussion Protocol
The latest Maxey update couldn't have come at a better time for 76ers fans. The team has been struggling to win games ever since Joel Embiid became sidelined with a knee injury at the beginning of February. The 76ers have gone 7-11 across the 18 games since Embiid last played, highlighting how important Maxey's return is.
The former 2020 21st-overall selection was enjoying a breakout year before his concussion occurred. Although his 44.9% field-goal and 37.8% three-point percentages are down from last year, Maxey is still averaging career-highs in points (26.0), assists (6.3), rebounds (3.7), and steals (1.0) as well as field goals (9.0) and three-pointers (3.1) made through 55 games.
Hopefully, Maxey helps lead the 76ers to a victory over the Knicks on Tuesday. Philadelphia currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 36-28 record, however, Nick Nurse's team is only half a game away from falling into a Play-In Tournament spot.
Tuesday's meeting is the fourth and final 76ers-Knicks matchup of the 2023-24 campaign. New York won the first two encounters before Philly tallied a 79-73 victory on Sunday. Having said that, the 76ers have now won 11 of their last 13 trips to Madison Square Garden.
At the end of the day, the 76ers need a fully healthy Maxey and Embiid to win their first title in over 40 years. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Philadelphia owns the 12th-best odds to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy this spring.
