3 76ers on the Nice List (& 2 on the Naughty List) This Christmas
76ers Nice List #2: Tyrese Maxey
While Embiid deserves every ounce of praise he gets, Tyrese Maxey also deserves his flowers.
For the third season in a row, Maxey has improved on the previous year's numbers. The 23-year-old Dallas, TX native is playing at an All-Star level, averaging personal bests when it comes to points (26.1), assists (6.7), rebounds (3.8), blocks (0.5), and free-throw percentage (90.0%).
While Maxey's 46.2% field-goal percentage is down from the two previous seasons, his 40.0% three-point success rate helps make him the perfect complement to Embiid's frontcourt dominance. He also has five double-doubles already, which is four more than he had in his first three seasons combined.
Considering that he wasn't drafted until the 21st pick back in 2020, the ex-Kentucky Wildcat is looking more and more like the steal of the draft.
Maxey is also on the last year of his rookie deal, so chances are he'll receive a pretty hefty contract in the new year, which could come in the neighborhood of $200 million. For now, he'll receive the benefits that come with being in Santa's good graces.
