6 Flyers Who Won't Return Next Season

After a disappointing 2023-24 campaign, don't count on seeing these six Philadelphia Flyers back with the organization next season.

Staal isn't the only veteran blueliner who's likely in his last season with the Flyers.

As injuries to the backend piled up, the Flyers traded a draft pick at the trade deadline to acquire Erik Johnson from the Buffalo Sabres. Even though his prime is firmly in the rearview mirror, the 36-year-old, who's played nearly 1,000 games, was seen as someone who could provide depth to the blue line down the stretch.

Unfortunately, Johnson has been tough to watch throughout the last month. Since being acquired at the deadline, the former Minnesota product minus-9 plus/minus rating is good for the fourth-worst mark on the team. Philadelphia's goaltenders also own a putrid .854 save percentage when he's on the ice, further highlighting how detrimental he's been.

Considering how Johnson is also facing unrestricted free agency, he's likely as good as gone once the season ends. He just isn't a good fit in Philadelphia and it's unlikely that his play will prove given his age. Chances are that he'll either roll the dice elsewhere or decide to finally hang up his skates.
