6 Eagles Defenders on the Chopping Block After Sean Desai Firing
6. The entire secondary
Earlier, we singled out James Bradberry, but after the way this unit played in 2023, I wouldn't rule out a new defensive coordinator coming in and wanting to gut the secondary, starting from scratch in many ways.
And could you blame them?
I think Bradberry is as good as gone, but Darius Slay didn't have his best season, either. The Eagles were scrounging for nickel cornerback help all throughout last season, signing players like Bradley Roby to keep the ship afloat. They went after veteran safety Kevin Byard in a mid-season trade to upgrade the safety position.
At least at the cornerback position, I think we'll see the Eagles be aggressive in pursuing some new blood. They could roll with Darius Slay and Kelee Ringo as the two outside guys in 2024, but I think it would be wise for them to pursue some help at the nickel in free agency and then go after some other young talent in the NFL Draft.
Philadelphia's pass defense ranked 31st in the league this past year. That's not the mark of a contending team. The secondary is firmly on the chopping block for 2024.
