5 Realistic Eagles Trade Targets at the Deadline
3. Zach Ertz, TE, Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals might be motivated to move on from Zach Ertz in the very near future and for a variety of reasons.
First of all, Ertz has a relatively hefty base salary in 2023 of $8.755 million. Obviously, an acquiring team like the Eagles would only be inheriting about half of that with this being a possible trade deadline deal, but that would still represent a savings of over $4 million for the Cardinals this year.
Second, Ertz was just placed on IR roughly one day ago (at the time of this writing). Going on injured reserve doesn't necessarily prevent Ertz from being traded and he's expected to come back at some point this year, but it does raise the question of whether or not Zach Ertz is going to be on the Arizona roster next season or if they will just move on.
Third, the Cardinals have young tight end Trey McBride who is now in line for more touches, more of a role in the offense.
All of these factors could very well motivate Arizona to trade Ertz for pennies on the dollar, and I wouldn't be shocked to see the Eagles shoot for a reunion here. They already made one trade for Albert Okwuegbunam at roster cuts, but Ertz is a veteran who could help with the depth at this position for Philly and potentially come back to help them win another Super Bowl. This reunion makes a ton of sense.
