3. Sean Desai, Defensive Coordinator

As mentioned, this was an awful game for Sean Desai. The defensive coordinator with a doctorate is in his first year with the Eagles. It's also just his second season as a defensive coordinator.

His first was in 2021 with the Chicago Bears when he replaced Chuck Pagano. The move was significant since Desai was the first person of Indian descent to be named a coordinator in the NFL. He showed promise with the Bears proving to be a good pass defense and they were sixth in yardage — but 22nd in points.

Desai wasn't retained when a new coaching staff came in and that led to him spending a season in Seattle under Pete Carrol as an associate head coach and defensive assistant. Then, he was interviewed by several teams before becoming a coordinator again in Philly.

So far, he's struggled in that role. The Eagles are solid against the run but terrible in pass defense. They're currently 30th in yards and 31st in touchdowns. Overall, that has them 24th in defensive scoring.

This past weekend was especially troublesome. Desai's defense had no answers for the 49ers once they got rolling. After two punts to start the game, the Niners had touchdowns on six-straight drives. Fingers will be pointed all over for this but Desai should take the brunt of the criticism.
