4 Eagles Who Need More Playing Time to Win the Super Bowl

4. D’Andre Swift

Swift has been the clear RB1 all season but had a relatively split snap count with Kenneth Gainwell. He hasn’t played over 60% of snap counts since Week 12. There is an argument to be made for the reduction in his playing time being a factor in the Eagles’ slump.

There were calls for Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny to play more all season. It doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. Swift and Gainwell are the only running backs to have the coaching staff’s trust.

Swift is a more dangerous runner with an ability to make big plays. He averages 4.6 yards per carry versus Gainwell’s 4.3 despite having a much higher volume. Gainwell just hasn’t been as effective as Swift.

Plus, there is this bizarre stat. The Eagles are 2-6 when Gainwell plays over 40% of the snaps, and 8-1 when he plays 40% or fewer, the only loss coming in Week 18 against the New York Giants. It’s time to drop the platoon and deploy Swift as a workhorse back throughout the playoffs.
