Washington Commanders: Hiring Dan Quinn as Head Coach

Speaking of disasters, the Washington Commanders are fresh off of a miserable 4-13 campaign, their sixth season in the past seven with a losing record.

Ron Rivera was justifiably canned by Washington at the end of the year, but it appears the Commanders love retread old coaches, as now-ex Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is running the show.

Qunn is obviously famous for being the HC of the Atlanta Falcons team that blew a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl. We are six years removed that historic collapse, so its memory has faded a little, but it's a still a blemish that will follow Quinn for the rest of his career.

That's not what makes this a less-than-inspiring hire, however. Instead, that has to do with how his Dallas defense performed in 2023.

Where to even start? Well, how about the Cowboys surrendering 28 points in a loss to the full-on-tanking Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, which ended up being Arizona's season high? Or getting curb stomped by Kyle Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers offense, which hung 42 points on Quinn's group?

There were other bumps in the road as well, like giving up 31 to a Buffalo Bills team using a first-time play-caller who was installed mid-season.

The worst showcase by far, however, was the Wild Card matchup with the Green Bay Packers. Quinn's unit was completely undone by Jordan Love in his first playoff game and running back Aaron Jones, allowing a whopping six offensive touchdowns in a 48-32 loss that could've been much closer if the defense got some more stops.

The Commanders saw that performance and decided to hire the man who's most to blame for it? Yeah, good luck with that.
