3 Phillies Who Will Be Replaced By Free Agent Signings
By Tyler Maher
3. Seranthony Dominguez
Dominguez wasn't good for the blood pressure of Philly fans this year, especially in the playoffs. He allowed 9 baserunners in 5 1/3 innings of postseason action but somehow didn't allow a single earned run.
That type of shaky performance should give Phillies management pause. He went 5-5 with a 3.78 ERA this season (significantly higher than his 3.00 ERA in 2022), and his peripheral numbers weren't pretty.
Dominguez's 4.84 FIP and 1.40 WHIP were abysmal last season, and his ERA will certainly be over four (if not five) next year if he doesn't improve his command. He also posted the worst strikeout rate of his career at 8.6 K/9, which is never a good sign when you're already going into your age-29 season.
The veteran reliever still has one more year of team control left, but Philadelphia shouldn't wait until next offseason to replace him. His numbers will likely only get worse next year, so the front office should be proactive about bringing in a better relief option before that opens.
