3. Shaquille Leonard

Eagles fans were excited about the team potentially signing veteran linebacker Shaquille Leonard when the Indianapolis Colts released him in November.

At the time, the Eagles’ linebacker unit was leaking oil as second-year linebacker Nakobe Dean was placed on injured reserve, and the team lacked depth. However, when Philadelphia signed Leonard, he didn’t look like the playmaking linebacker we saw in Indianapolis.

The 28-year-old linebacker showed flashes of the Leonard we were familiar with, especially in the Eagles’ Christmas Day win over the Giants. Leonard posted seven combined tackles, two tackles for loss, and a quarterback hit.

But in the following week against the Arizona Cardinals, the veteran linebacker looked like a shell of himself in pass coverage, which used to be one of his stronger skills.

Even though the Eagles have a new defensive coordinator (Vic Fangio) and need depth at the linebacker spot, Leonard will likely be playing elsewhere next season.
