The 2023 season for the Philadelphia Eagles started on a high note but ended on a whimper as the team dropped six out of their last seven games.

It was a stark contrast from what we saw from the Eagles in 2022, who lost by three points in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the team did not play up to expectations and didn’t resemble the team we saw last year that had everybody contributing and having fun on the field.

Furthermore, there were a few players that Eagles fans thought were going to do something this season, but it never came to fruition. One could say that they were overrated and didn’t help the team to get back to where they were last season.

1. Rashaad Penny

Many Eagles fans thought Rashaad Penny would supplant D’Andre Swift as the team’s No. 1 running back after they decided not to re-sign Miles Sanders.

Penny, who only played in five games in 2022 due to injury, was looking for a chance to show that he could make it through an entire season healthy and be productive. He stayed healthy this season, but the production wasn’t there.

The veteran running back played in three games with the Eagles as he was a healthy scratch for the other 14 games. The most work Penny received this season was in the regular season finale against the New York Giants, where he had six carries for 16 yards.

Eagles fans were puzzled every week that Penny was a healthy scratch and couldn’t get on the field despite the team having Boston Scott, Kenny Gainwell, and Swift.

Penny will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and it's unlikely he’ll be back with the Eagles after not being utilized this season.
