3 Keys to Phillies Sweeping the Marlins in NL Wild Card Series
By Tyler Maher
3. Home-Field Advantage
I briefly alluded to this above, but home-field advantage is going to be a massive factor in this series and puts Miami at a huge disadvantage.
The Marlins haven't been home for over a week now after ending the regular season on a road trip. They played their last home game on Sept. 24, then went to New York and Pittsburgh to finish out the season. There's no rest for the weary, however, as they continue their road trip in Philly.
And with all due respect, the atmosphere for these games is going to be way different. The Mets and Pirates were both out of the playoff race, so neither fan base was very engaged. Both parks had a lot of empty seats, as the games were meaningless for both home teams.
That won't be the case in Philadelphia, as Citizens Bank Park is going to be a madhouse. Phillies fans are next level, and you know they're going to bring the noise.
Meanwhile, Marlins fans are few and far between in this part of the country, so don't expect to see too many of them at the Bank this week. It's going to be a sea of red for both games.
Can Miami handle that? I don't think so. The Marlins had a losing record on the road this year (38-42), while Philly was tough to beat at home (49-32).
We're not letting this series go back to Florida if we have anything to say about it.
