3 Former Super Bowl Champs the Eagles Could Still Sign in Free Agency
3. Halapoulivaati Vaitai
How about a reunion?
Offensive lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai entered the league as a fifth-round pick by the Eagles in 2015. He went on to appear in 55 games and make starts for Philadelphia over five seasons, earning a Super Bowl ring in 2017 along the way.
Now Vaitai is searching for his next home, and the Eagles stand out as a fit. He obviously has familiarity with the team and the players who are still around from the championship run, including right tackle Lane Johnson, making this an easy transition.
Philadelphia's O-line has also taken a hit this offseason with Jason Kelce's departure. Cam Jurgens sliding over to center and Tyler Steen taking Jurgens' spot at right guard would help fill the starting roles, but depth is still needed behind the Eagles' best five in the trenches.
Vaitai offers legit flexibility with experience at both tackle spots and guard, the latter of which was his main position at times with the Detroit Lions the past three seasons. That ability to sub in wherever there's a need is a serious asset, especially as the Eagles figure out their ideal O-line construction in a post-Kelce era.
Considering how important offensive line depth is for contenders, this signing makes a ton of sense.
