3 Eagles Who Will Be Replaced on Day 2 of the NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
2. Grant Calcaterra, Tight End
Philadelphia has boasted a solid TE1 since 2013 when they added Zach Ertz in the second round out of Stanford. He spent nine years with the Eagles before being traded to the Arizona Cardinals. That was when they were ready to turn things over to Dallas Goedert — their second-round pick in 2018.
The South Dakota product has held the job down well with 3,589 yards receiving and 22 touchdowns in his career. As good as he's been, there's no strong option to be the No. 2 tight end. Right now, Grant Calcaterra and C.J. Uzomah are the primary options and while Uzomah has had some good moments in the past, he had just eight receptions for 58 yards for the New York Jets in 2023. That's still better than Calcaterra who had four catches for 39 yards.
In 2023, the NFL Draft was full of talented tight ends and several made a splash as rookie — including Sam LaPorta for the Detroit Lions and Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft with the Green Bay Packers.
This class isn't as stacked but there are still several players who could go in Round 2 or Round 3 that would be an upgrade over Calcaterra.
