On Friday, the Philadelphia Eagles officially launched the 2024 NFL season with their first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Eagles came out with the 16-13 win but the score was secondary as it was mainly to see the young guys and players on the roster bubble perform.

There were key absences on both sides. The Eagles were missing a ton of firepower with Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith not suiting up. Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Josh Sweat, and Darius Slay were among other veterans who also rested in Preseason Week 1.

Therefore, it's hard to learn a ton from this game about what the Eagles will look like next season. However, there were a couple of individual performances worthy of discussion. These three Eagles made a strong argument for why they need to be included in the 53-man roster.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Trotter Jr. was selected by the Eagles in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The son of former Eagles star Jeremiah Trotter, the 21-year-old showed a lot of similarities with his father.

The former Clemson star has been earning praise all of training camp, especially about his instincts. He demonstrated why as he made an immediate impact when he stepped on the field. After getting on the field at the 5:43 mark of the second quarter, he was the best defender out there for the Eagles.

He had a team-high five tackles, one sack, and showed a ton of activity and athleticism. He was effective in punt coverage and had a big special teams play, showcasing his versatility and potential utility on special teams. He is behind a ton of quality linebackers to start the season but he proved that he is worthy of a roster spot at the bare minimum.
