2. Oren Burks, linebacker

Even as important as the linebacker position is in Vic Fangio's defense, and even with a heightened emphasis on linebackers potentially with the NFL's new kickoff return rules, there may be too many "cooks in the kitchen" for Oren Burks to crack the Eagles' roster.

And given their depth at the position, they might even be inclined to trade him or cut him before camp starts so he can get a chance elsewhere.

The Eagles signed Burks to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million this offseason, but only for $850,000 guaranteed. So they aren't on the hook for much if they do decide to let him go at some point. There are just so many bodies at the off-ball linebacker position, and you kind of get the impression that general manager Howie Roseman decided to overcorrect here after maybe not paying enough attention to this position after losing their two starters from the NFC Championship team in 2022-23.

The Eagles brought in Zack Baun and Devin White in free agency this year, and those two guys appear in line to start for them. Nakobe Dean, when healthy, is also going to see playing time on the field. The team also added Eagles legacy Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Needless to say, it wouldn't be shocking in the slightest to see the team move on from Burks, even though he provides them with some nice veteran depth. Burks had a pretty good season in 2023 with the 49ers and deserves a shot to play somewhere, and more than just 150 or 200 snaps. The question at this point is whether or not the Eagles actually give him that chance.
