3 Eagles Who Could Be Cut Prior to Training Camp
The NFL is a brutal business, and even with 90-man rosters around the league, some players might not make it to the beginning of training camp as teams sort out everything they saw at OTAs and minicamps. For the Philadelphia Eagles, making the 53-man roster this coming season is going to be tough. As you would expect, this roster is loaded up and ready for a substantial run in the NFC after a disappointing finish last year.
What players could be in danger of being cut even before training camp for the Eagles? Let's take a look at a handful of names that could be on the chopping block.
3 Eagles Who Could Be Cut Before Training Camp in 2024
1. Albert Okwuegbunam, TE
The Eagles have one of the best all-around tight ends in the NFL already in starter Dallas Goedert, and from the sounds of things, it was an impressive off-season program for potential TE2 Grant Calcaterra. In fact, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni complimented the "unbelievable job" Calcaterra has been doing and Calcaterra himself expounded on what that meant to him:
"I think that I have the mentality of no matter what’s going on, I’m the same guy every day. I’m consistent. I’m always trying to get better little by little. I think this offseason I showcased that, and I was able to prove that I am capable of playing at this level. And I think that’s what he was referring to."
- Grant Calcaterra
Calcaterra is the story, but the unfortunate casualty of his rise could end up being the 2023 trade acquisition Albert Okwuegbunam, a talented athlete who has had some great moments in the NFL, but just hasn't been able to put it together. The former fourth-round pick out of Missouri is not only buried behind Dallas Goedert and possibly Calcaterra, but the Eagles have veteran CJ Uzomah on the roster as well.
