1. McCallan Castles, TE, Tennessee

Another semi-surprise during the draft was the Eagles’ decision to pass on adding a tight end. They feel good about their starter — as they should — in Dallas Goedert, but the backups leave a lot to be desired.

Grant Calcaterra has nine receptions in two seasons and Albert Okwuegbunam had just one target thrown his way in 2023 — which was an incompletion.

They did sign C.J. Uzomah, who was once a starter for the Cincinnati Bengals but he’s coming off a rough campaign. Uzomah had just eight receptions for the New York Jets in 2023. Perhaps he turns back the clock this year but it still seemed as if they should have added some competition.

That could prove to be a win for McCallan Castles from Tennessee. Signed as an undrafted free agent, Castles started his career at UC Davis before going to Tennessee to prove he can compete against the best. He did that with five touchdowns this season. That was enough to earn a $230,000 guarantee in his contract with a $30,000 bonus.

That shows this front office has faith in him and he could have a shot at not only making the 53-man roster, but Castles could be their TE2 before long.
