3 Eagles on Thin Ice Heading Into Week 2
By Randy Gurzi
Week 1 was a success for the Philadelphia Eagles since they left Brazil with a win over the Green Bay Packers. They even received a ton of praise for their huge offseason acquisition, Saquon Barkley.
His debut was phenomenal and could make a huge difference for their offense as a whole. He finished with 132 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.
The best news for Philly is that Barkley wasn’t the only new player who stood out. Linebacker Zack Baun had 15 tackles and two sacks in his debut with the franchise.
As good as those two were, there were a few areas the Eagles would have liked to perform better. With that in mind, here are three players who need to improve in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.
3. Cam Jurgens, C
Replacing a legend is never easy. That’s what Cam Jurgens is attempting to do as he slides over from guard to center, where he’s filling the hole left by Jason Kelce.
One of the longest-tenured players on the team, Kelce had risen to popularity beyond that of any center — perhaps on any team. Incredibly likable and an absolute beast on the field, he left quite the void.
Jurgens, a second-round pick in 2022 has the pedigree to replace him but he didn’t have a great debut. Not only was the “tush push” not the same but there were two bad exchanges from under center. These issues should be ironed out quickly but the spotlight will intensify on Jurgens if that’s not the case.
