3 Eagles on Thin Ice Following Week 5 Bye
By Jovan Alford
2. Bryce Huff
The Eagles made a couple of huge splashes in free agency, signing star running back Saquon Barkley and veteran pass rusher Bryce Huff to lucrative three-year deals. Through four games, Barkley has lived up to expectations and surpassed them based on his performance.
However, Huff has been a massive disappointment for a team that lacked a quality pass rush in 2023 and traded Haason Reddick in the offseason. The former New York Jets EDGE rusher has produced two combined tackles and a quarterback pressure in four games.
The 26-year-old defensive lineman has yet to record his first sack of the season, which is what the Eagles expected when signing him as a free agent. Last season, Huff had a career-high 21 quarterback hits, 10 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks as a rotation defensive end in the Big Apple.
Last year with the Jets, Huff played 42% of defensive snaps and has currently played 43% of snaps on defense with the Eagles.
Philadelphia didn’t envision 36-year-old Brandon Graham outplaying Huff, who has posted five combined tackles, four QB pressures, two tackles for loss, and a sack.
The Eagles will hope Huff can turn things around heading into Week 6 as this defense needs its pass rush to step up to have any success the rest of the way.
