3. Rashaad Penny

After the Eagles didn’t re-sign Miles Sanders, there was a segment of fans excited to see them sign Penny.

The veteran running back looked like a low-tier RB1/quality RB2 when healthy, which has been an issue over the last few years. With Penny sharing snaps with D’Andre Swift, Kenny Gainwell, and Boston Scott, fans were excited to see how the running game would turn out.

However, as things would play out during the season, Penny would be the odd man out in the running back room. The 27-year-old running back played in three games as he was a healthy scratch in the 14 other regular season contests.

The most rushing attempts Penny got during the season was in Week 18 against the New York Giants, where he had six for 16 yards.

There was a reason why Penny never got on the field with the Eagles after averaging 6.1 yards per attempt in 2022 with the Seahawks (five games), but we’ll never know the answer. Penny will latch on with another team this offseason as he tries to prove that he can be effective and stay healthy.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have to figure out what they will do with Swift and Scott, who are both free agents this offseason. Scott should return in 2024, but Swift is another question after rushing for a career-high 1,049 yards and scoring five touchdowns. It would be in the Eagles’ best interest to re-sign Swift, but running back is another position they don’t value enough.
