3 Eagles Bold Predictions vs Rams in Week 5
By Tyler Maher
3. Our Defense Shuts Cooper Kupp Down
Assuming Kupp plays, he's not going to do much of anything against our defense.
Kupp was one of the best receivers in the NFL before getting hurt last season, but he hasn't played in nearly a year. His last game was on Nov. 13, which means he has a lot of rust to shake off. He's also 30 now, so he's getting up there in years and may never be an elite receiver again.
And trying to do it against Philadelphia's defense in your first game back? Good luck. We're going to play him tight and rough him up a bit if needed, so he's not gonna have anywhere to run.
We also know Stafford will be eager to get Kupp involved and put the ball in the hands of his former top receiver, so we'll be ready for that.
It also helps that Stafford isn't the gunslinger he used to be. The 35-year-old is nearing retirement for a reason. Since the beginning of last year, he has as many interceptions as touchdown passes (15), including a 3:5 TD/INT ratio this year. His 62.0% completion rate is his lowest since 2014, too, so just because he's aiming for Kupp doesn't mean he'll hit him.
Kupp and Stafford are both on the downswing, so I'm not worried about Kupp's return giving the Rams a sudden boost. Our defense can handle him.
