12 Eagles Entering Their Final Season With Philadelphia

Patrick Johnson, LB
Another Eagles defender who is entering the final season of his contract is Patrick Johnson. The seventh-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is finishing his rookie deal and whether he has done enough to justify a second contract is a big question.
Over the last three years, Johnson has primarily played on the special teams. Last season, he saw 38 defensive snaps in total compared to his 299 special teams snaps. That was a significant reduction in his role from a season ago where he saw 21% of defensive snaps. In limited action, he wasn't particularly impressive, receiving a 47.3 overall defensive grade from PFF. He has yet to record a sack in 48 games and has a total of 35 tackles in three years.
That is why Patrick Johnson was a cut candidate ahead of the roster cutdown day. Some have expected him to find a place on the practice squad but he was able to make the final 53-man cut. He may not get enough of a chance to play himself into a contract extension, however.
