The Philadelphia Eagles made significant moves this offseason, especially in terms of re-signing their own players. Landon Dickerson, Jordan Mailata, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith all signed lucrative, long-term contracts. One player who was up for an extension but didn't get one is Milton Williams.

It was reported over the summer that the Eagles and the defensive tackle had preliminary discussions on a contract extension but those didn't go anywhere.

The Eagles rely on the former third-round pick to anchor the defensive line after Fletcher Cox announced his retirement. He already saw his role increase last season as he played a career-high 46% of defensive snaps. However, he was never able to have the breakout season many were hoping for him. His production took a hit and he finished the season with 42 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks.

If they can get Williams to extend at a reasonable cost, the Eagles would presumably want to keep him around. Vic Fangio and Howie Roseman both seem to be fans of the 25-year-old but if that breakout season doesn't come, a fresh start may be better for both sides.
